Before Joining EmpServe, Sabina was in her final semester studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Genomic science. She was worried about what she would do after graduating from the university. She had always wanted to pursue ICT but due to the economic situation of her family, she was unable to and was stressed about how she could find herself in the IT world.

Igniting Passions through ICT
Joining EmpServe has been transformational in Sabina’s life. At the Social Innovation Hub she got to gain skills in ICT; Web development, adobe photoshop, graphic design, and much-needed skills on social entrepreneurship. These skills enabled her to come up with a website, J’s mother and Baby mobile Maternity clinic, to address the issues that expectant mothers face before and even after delivery after she grew concerned about how the issue would have been solved.
Besides the skills in ICT and social entrepreneurship, Sabina gained a lot of soft skills through the life skills sessions and mentorship programs at the hub which boosted her confidence, and self-esteem. She improved how she interacted with friends and developed her leadership skills. Sabina got to see life in the bigger picture.
Success after the Program
Through the skills she gained in the program she was better placed in the job market. She landed a job at Mugumo hospital, Nyamira county where she is working as a laboratory technician. So many youths get stuck after graduating with their degree since they have no other course to better place them in the market, but Sabina’s skills in ICT and social entrepreneurship made her stand out.
Sabina hopes to gain more experience in the hospital set up to enable her to implement her J’s mother and Baby mobile Maternity clinic, she grew a passion for transforming the lives of the vulnerable in the society
