Amidst the scare of Covid-19 and the challenges that came with the pandemic, we have continued to offer ICT and life skills to women and girls from the urban-disadvantaged communities.
We are able to do this through our programmatic focus; INNOVATING FOR SOCIAL IMPACT. This program focuses on using innovative solutions and technology to address social problems in grassroot communities. Our aim is to bridge the skills gap and stimulate youth-owned creative ideas for these communities.
Our latest project, The Social Innovation Hub seeks to empower girls from disadvantaged urban communities by equipping them with BASIC and ADVANCED digital skills for the new age.
The model entails transitioning to the social entrepreneurship incubation space where the participants will launch their social business. Other pathways include mentorship towards joining institutions of higher learning and orientation to the labour market through apprenticeship, internships, and volunteerism.
We celebrated the inaugural graduation for 4 Cohorts on 8th March. The event, which coincided with International Women’s Day 2020 was the first of its kind. The epic culmination of shared efforts and intensive training transitioned 21 girls from urban-disadvantaged communities who took part in Basic and Advanced IT Training.
The Social-Innovation Hub which is located in the Pangani area, KCDF Building, is funded by our partners the W4-Women’s Organization. It provides the girls with a safe space for learning and networking. The hub is fully equipped with computers and a stable internet connection with a resident IT trainer.
The program targets ladies from age 18-25 with basic or no IT knowledge. The intensive program covers areas such as graphic design, Microsoft Packages and basic coding. For most of these girls, this is a game-changer. These are some of the success stories.
We are honoured to be able to share in the success of these and many more girls. Thanks to you and our partners we keep CREATING, INNOVATING and IMPACTING.
